The Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Bako Lalong, has directed that a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the Department of Trade Unions Services and Industrial Relations.
According to Platinum Times, the minister invited the two labor organizations to a conference to discuss averting the two-day walkout on September 5 and 6, but only the TUC attended.
Olajide Oshundun, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, said in a statement on Sunday that it was critical that unions work with the government to resolve any outstanding issues in order to avoid further economic hardship.
According to the minister, President Bola Tinubu’s administration would always engage organized labor and respond to its concerns after due engagement and negotiations in order to ensure industrial peace, which is vital to achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.
