Ibrahim Adamu, 50, has been detained by Jigawa State police for reportedly butchering his stepson, 4, with a sharp weapon.
In a statement made available to Platinum Times, the event was confirmed by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, spokesman for the Jigawa State police command.
He claimed the incident took place in the Jigawa State village of Unguwar Dinya in the Roni LGA.
According to the statement,
“On 8/8/2023 at about 2130hrs, an ugly information was received from Unguwar Dinya village in Roni LGA of Jigawa State, that at about 1942hrs, a four-year-old boy Salmanu Umar was seen covered with blood with a deep cut on his throat.
“On receiving the report, a team of detectives led by Divisional Police Officer, Roni Division, rushed to the scene of the crime and conveyed the victim to General Hospital Kazaure for treatment; he later died while receiving treatment.”
He claimed that the probe resulted in the arrest of Ibrahim Adamu, 50, of Unguwar Dinya village, Roni LGA, who is the deceased’s mother’s spouse.
According to Shiisu, the suspect admitted to the killing during questioning because he had grown to hate the child and couldn’t afford to provide for it.
He claimed that the suspect also admitted to trying to kill the child for the first time, but that the attempt was thwarted when the mother of the dead called her in-law to denounce him.
The suspect has already been arraigned in court, he revealed.
