Man bags death sentence for killing friend over N100 in Zamfara

Anas Dahiru was condemned to death by hanging by a Zamfara State High Court for the murder of his companion.
Anas of Gusau, Zamfara State, was accused of murdering his friend Shamsu Ibrahim with a knife in 2017 over an argument over one hundred Naira.
Mukhtar Yusha’u, the presiding justice, stated that after hearing all sides, the court was convinced that Anas committed the murder.
According to Section 221 of the Penal Code, Justice Yusha’u condemned the defendant to death by hanging.
In another event, the presiding court sentenced Sadiqu Abubakar to life in prison for attempted armed robbery in the State’s Bungudu Local Government Area.
Sadiqu was found guilty of assaulting a businessman in Runji village, who bravely arrested and turned him over to the police.
He was given the death penalty.
Speaking to reporters on the court grounds, the prosecution, Barrister Mansur Lawal, Assistant Director, Public Prosecution, Zamfara State Ministry of Justice, said he was pleased with the court’s decision.
Barrister Muhammad Ahmad Jamo, the coordinator, legal assistance council, Zamfara State office, who represents the two convicts, said the judgment would serve as a deterrence to others.
He did, however, reveal that they will investigate the possibilities of filing an appeal.
