MDCN bans YSU from admitting students into Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) program

For the 2023–2014 academic year, Yobe State University has been banned by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) to admit undergraduate students to the Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) department.
The ban is stated in a circular that the management of the university released to the general public on July 18, 2023 and bears the reference number YSU/P/CMS/CIR/Vol. 1/15.
With a caption, ‘STOPPAGE OF MBBS I ADMISSION FOR 2023/2024 ACADEMIC SESSION BY MEDICAL AND DENTAL COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (MDCN)’, the circular read;
“Reference to the accreditation visitation report MDCN/1390/Vol. I/65 to Yobe State University by the team from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria on 27 & 28 April 2023 on the above subject matter.
“I write to inform you that, the MDCN has directed the stoppage of MBBS 1 admission for the 2023/2024 academic session, intending candidates and parents should bear with us, please”.
There were indications that the ban follows the inability of the University to meet the basic requirements needed for the full accreditation of the course.
