More crisis hit PDP as party chieftains meet with APC chairman, Ganduje

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, appears to be losing some of its most important members.

According to reports, many party members are prepared to accept appointments from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who pledged to form a government of national unity.

The PDP has been working to remove itself from collapse ever after President Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, won the 2023 presidential election.

Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, is already leaving the party after accepting a cabinet position with the Tinubu administration. The Senate has conducted a screening of Wike.

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, another party chieftain, is now thought to have finalized preparations to join Senator David Umahu, the former governor of his State, Ebonyi, in the APC.

According to reports, Anyim visited Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, at his home in Abuja.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim spoke with Ganduje, although it is unclear what transpired at the meeting.

Anyim is reportedly on his way to the ruling party, according to insiders.

In the most recent general election, the Senator, a crucial PDP supporter, supported Francis Nwifuru of the APC over Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, the party’s nominee for governor of Ebonyi.

It is unknown if he backed Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, during the election.

Many saw Anyim’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock in early July, a few weeks beforehand, as an indication that he was about to join the ruling APC.

“It was a great honor to pay courtesy to the President and congratulate him, first and foremost, on his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the former Senate President said to reporters after meeting with Tinubu. “I also want to encourage and congratulate him for the bold decisions he has taken so far.”

Despite holding a second meeting over the weekend, PDP leaders have not yet announced any disciplinary actions against party members who support the APC.

Atiku tweeted after the meeting:

“Earlier today, I joined other leaders and stakeholders of our esteemed party, @OfficialPDPNig, including my Vice Presidential candidate, Dr @IAOkowa, Governors, and members of the PDP NWC.

“This meeting provided an opportunity for us to examine the current state of our nation carefully and to thoughtfully articulate a pathway forward from the critical crossroads at which we presently find ourselves. -AA.”
