Murja Kunya, controversial Kano TikToker, remanded in prison

Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a controversial TikToker, has been remanded at Kano State’s Kurmawa Correctional Facility by a Shari’a Court in the Kwana Hudu district of Kano.

According to Platinum Times, Murja was arrested earlier on Tuesday by the Kano State Hisbah Board following a weeks-long manhunt for her and five other Tiktokers in the state.

She is accused of making herself a public nuisance, obscenity, and attempting to recruit young girls for prostitution. As a result, the Court ordered her remanded until it reconvened on February 27, 2024.

According to Platinum Times, Murja passionately disputed all claims against her during her appearance before the Shari’a Court on Tuesday.

Murja was detained by the Kano State Hisbah Board at her home in the Tishama Hotoro neighborhood at 12:46 a.m. on Tuesday morning, following an increase in complaints from community residents concerned about the apparent detrimental influence of the social media influencer on young people.

Murja recently made a video on TikTok claiming to have power over all prostitutes in Kano State and demanding that they all kneel to her.

The development represents Murja Kunya’s second run-in with the police and his ongoing battle with the State’s Islamic Police Force, also known as Hisbah.

She was briefly held in prison in February 2023. At the time, her case revolved around a heated social media post, which resulted in a reduced sentence of community service.

Along with Murja, Hisbah was following Abubakar Ibrahim (G-Fresh), Sadiya Haruna, Ashiru Idris (Maiwushirya), Ummee Shakira, and Hassan Makeup on TikTok.
