NBC, NOA issues warnings on fake news, hate speech, threat in Nigeria

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) have both expressed concern over the spread and consumption of false information in Nigerian society.
When Mrs. Regina Iroha, the Abia State Director of NOA, and the management of the agency paid a courtesy call to the office of the NBC, the two federal organizations raised the alarm in Umuahia.
She criticized the presence of fake news, especially on social media, and asked the National Broadcasting Commission’s Abia State office for help in combating the problem in accordance with the agency’s duty of news censorship.
Iroha revealed that the NOA had been charged with educating the young and women of the Abia Central Senatorial District in order to create a peaceful society.
She announced that her agency was working to stop the nation’s production and dissemination of false information and hate speech.
In response, Mrs. Ima Ubom, the State Director of NBC, reaffirmed that false information and other deceptive aspects have turned into causes of danger and harmful actions in society.
Ubom applauded the NOA for its efforts to create a society of peaceful coexistence, maintaining that quick and strong action must be made to counter these challenges.
By blocking the broadcast and dissemination of fake news, she continued, NBC has been fulfilling its obligations as a regulating body. She also noted that NBC has continued its battle against hate speech.
