Niger Coup: If Tinubu uses military action, Biafra will support you – Simon Ekpa tells Niger, Mali
Popular Biafra separatist and agitator Simon Ekpa has supported the military juntas in the Niger Republic, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
He claimed that if the Nigerian military intervened as West African governments were considering, Biafra would assist the juntas.
This was revealed on Monday in a video posted to his verified Twitter account by Ekpa, a lawyer based in Finland and the head of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile.
His response follows the recent increase in regional unrest in the West African regional bloc as a result of the military coup that occurred in the Niger Republic last month.
In an effort to bring about a return to normalcy in Niger, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requested the Senate’s permission last week to put into effect resolutions that the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, had previously achieved.
A provision of the resolution called for military action against the nation if the junta didn’t give up power within a week. However, the seven-day deadline passed on Sunday.
In response to the ECOWAS threat, Ekpa stated that Biafra firmly supports the juntas in Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
The presidents of Mali, Burkina Faso, and the Niger Republic deserve some encouragement, so let me start there.
“I want to start by encouraging the presidents of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Niger Republic.
“I want them to understand that the wave of freedom in Africa, especially West Africa, must continue. We want to let them know that Biafra is behind them.
“We are fighting the economic freedom and the complete freedom of our people. Should Nigeria lead a military invasion of the Niger Republic, Biafra will stand by them.
“Over 70 million Biafrans is standing behind any nations that want to free themselves from modern-day colonialism”, he said.
