NLC President, Ajaero announce commencement of Nationwide protest
Nigeria’s labor unions have started demonstrations around the country.
This was revealed by Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Wednesday during an interview with Channels Television at Unity Fountain in Abuja, where workers had gathered to take to the streets.
He claimed that other states have obstacles preventing the protest from starting.
“Protests have taken off in all states bearing some hindrances in some places. We are aware of the Police efforts to stop the process in some areas.
“To be candid with you, nothing is stopping the protest. Based on responses from state governments, it is equally our determination whether the protest will be for today, tomorrow or next, not by using force to stop the people from expressing their views. We are here for the protest, to make a statement to Nigerians”, he stated.
Workers demanded a reversal of fuel price increases and other measures by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on August 2, as reported by Platinum Times Nigeria.
Workers were assembled for protests at Unity Fountain in Abuja, Ogun, and Kano states as of the time this news was filed.
