Noise Pollution: Lagos govt shut down churches, nightclubs, others (photo)

Due to noise pollution, the Lagos State Government has closed down churches, pubs, nightclubs, event venues, and other businesses.

The affected businesses are spread throughout the state’s Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi regions.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, tweeted photos of some of the damaged establishments on X. These included the Yplus Event Center and the New Jerusalem Ark of God International Church.

LASEPA staff members sealed the buildings. LASEPA is the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency.

The post reads:

“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) officials conducted an enforcement operation, which resulted in the closure and sealing off of specific establishments in areas including Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi, all due to concerns regarding noise pollution.

“Let’s Stand United Against Noise Pollution! To combat noise pollution, LASEPA advocates strict adherence to the recommended sound levels in establishments, including religious centres, nightclubs, bars, and events centers.”
