NSCDC intercepts 2 trucks of railway tracks in Kwara
Six suspects have been taken into custody as NSCDC agents in the Olooru region of Kwara seized two vehicles carrying used railroad rails.
The NSCDC’s Kwara Commandant, Mr. Umar Mohammed, informed reporters in Ilorin on Wednesday that the suspects were taken into custody in two vehicles that were hauling railroad lines.
The accused were being returned from Jagundi village in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, when the arrest was made, the source continued.
But he said that two more suspects had escaped and that they would shortly be apprehended.
Mohammed added that the trucks would stay seized until the outcome of the case in court and that the NSCDC had obtained a court order on the suspects.
He pledged to keep Kwara secure, tranquil, and well-protected.
One of the suspects, Yunusa Bello, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was just hired to drive one of the trucks and that he was unaware that the tracks had been taken.
According to Bello, the people who hired him lied and said the tracks belonged to a representative of the Nigerian Railway Corporation in exchange for a N1 million fee.
