NSCDC nabs 15 suspected vandals of critical infrastructure in FCT
FCT Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reports that it has apprehended fifteen alleged miscreants, scavengers, and vandals who were experts at damaging important public infrastructure.
This was made public by the Command on Wednesday.
The Command claims that the arrests were conducted as a part of its increased regular nighttime operations around the region.
Olusola Odumosu, the commandant of the FCT NSCDC, stated that the suspects were apprehended at various locations throughout the region as she paraded them.
He claimed that the accused had turned the FCT’s vital infrastructure into “their targeted business.”
Burglary irons, a vandalized Lexus ES 330 used to transport stolen goods, climbing belts, hammers, screwdrivers, three measuring tapes, four spanners, a compass, helmets, three reflective jackets, hacksaws, sets of women’s earrings, bags, a cart, and a pumping machine are among the items recovered from the suspects, according to Odumosu.
He clarified that the suspects will face legal consequences for their offenses and will be held accountable for their deeds in order to discourage others from doing the same.
“The act of vandalism is not only a crime but it also inhibits effective functioning of critical infrastructure.
“Critical infrastructures are vital to the survival of our nation, and any encumbrance on them poses great risk to our security, safety and other essential services.
“We are resolute in enforcing this ban, safeguarding public infrastructure in the FCT and this effort would be sustained till we achieve sanity in the territory.
“These criminals and their partners now specialize in the vandalism, theft and illegal sales of vandalized public infrastructure business chain. We are going to take more robust measures to address this menace in the FCT once and for all,” the commandant said.
