NYSC mourns Grace Silas, Corps member killed by robbers in Kaduna

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has responded to the stabbing death of Grace Chalya Silas, a corps member, in Kaduna by unidentified perpetrators.

The tragic death of Chalya, KD/23A/4386 registration number, on Thursday put the scheme in a sorrowful mood.

On October 18, 2023, early on a Wednesday, she was killed in Kaduna.

She allegedly met some thugs while out jogging, who then stabbed her and stole her phone.

A kind Samaritan reportedly contacted her coworkers, and the NYSC administration allegedly transported the deceased to Harmony Hospital Limited in Barnawa, Kaduna, for prompt medical care, but she tragically passed away.

In response, the plan sent its condolences to the bereaved family, as well as to the deceased’s coworkers and employer.

The NYSC said in a statement that it is working closely with numerous security authorities to identify the perpetrators of this heinous act and ensure that justice is done. The statement was signed by Eddy Megwa, Director, Press and Public Relations.

“Members of the public are enjoined to cooperate with the security agencies in ensuring that all corps members who are deployed to contribute their quota to national development by serving in their communities are adequately protected.

“Corps members are our children, our sisters and brothers and they must be protected by all Nigerians,” the statement added.
