Ogun: We have no duplicates of Dapo Abiodun certificates – WAEC tells Tribunal
The Ogun State election petition tribunal heard testimony from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Thursday.
The tribunal had demanded a copy of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s WAEC certificate from the examination council.
Olufemi Olaleye, a representative of the testing organization, appeared before the tribunal in Isabo, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
The WAEC official said that “the requested certificate is not here with me,” so he was not sworn in or allowed to enter the witness box.
Olaleye was permitted to submit a copy of the subpoena that was served on the commission and that brought him before the tribunal as evidence, nevertheless.
Olaleye informed the tribunal that the reason he had not brought the needed certificate was “because the council does not keep duplicates of collected WAEC certificates.”
He said that “the original certificate given to the candidate will be forwarded to WAEC” for verification in order to determine whether or not someone took the council’s examination.
Olaleye was released from custody as soon as his testimony before the tribunal was recorded as PW73.
Olaleye tersely responded when asked to elaborate on the reasons why WAEC had failed to provide the sought certificate outside of the courtroom: “My lips are sealed.”
