One feared dead as Yoruba, Hausa clash in Lagos

On Friday, a riot broke out in the Oke-Ira neighborhood of Ogba, Lagos State, after a disagreement between Yoruba and Hausa residents turned physical.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force’s Lagos State command, said that the circumstances surrounding the incidents are currently being probed.

The rioters “used knife to inflict open injury on the chest of one Abiodun Hassan,” Mr Hundeyin told Peoples Gazette, adding that the injured was rushed to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where “he gave up the ghost.”

Mr Hundeyin added that two suspects, Nura Seyidu and Yusuf Abubakar, were arrested and under investigation to ascertain their roles in the murder and the resulting riot.

The clash disrupted business and vehicular movement in the area for hours while the police patroled to restore calm to the area.
