Oyo: Court sacks Ghandi Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso, orders fresh selection

Oba Ghandi Olaoye’s election and coronation as the new Soun of Ogbomoso have been declared void by an Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso.
The state government was then directed by the court to hold a new process for choosing and installing the new Soun after finding that Olaoye’s selection had not followed the proper procedures.
The decision came about as a result of a lawsuit that Kabir Laoye, one of the throne contenders, filed.
On September 8, 2023, Olaoye was sworn in as the next Soun, following an announcement from the state administration.
Remember how Prince Kabir Olaoye, a competitor for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool, had pursued Ghandi to court on the grounds that he wasn’t qualified to hold the office?
Laoye said he was not qualified for the post and had filed a lawsuit to contest Ghandi Olaoye’s appointment.
The court declared that Ghandi Olaoye’s election and installation as Soun of Ogbomoso were void, and it mandated a new poll to select the ruler of Oyo State’s second-biggest town.
