Pay N35,000 wage award or face our wrath, TUC tells FG

The federal government must immediately pay all federal public servants their N35,000 wage award, as agreed upon during a meeting that took place following the removal of the gasoline subsidy, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) warned on Tuesday.

The Congress explicitly said that it was under good authority to learn that laborers had only been paid for one month in September and that very few had gotten double pay.

This caution was issued in Abuja at a news conference that was in progress just following the Congress’ emergency National Executive Council meeting, according to TUC President Festus Osifo.

In order to prevent new crises in the nation, Osifo also issued a warning to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and all 36 state governments in the nation to “tighten” their belts in order to alleviate the hardship of workers brought on by the loss of fuel subsidies.

“We want the government to tighten their belts, government at all levels – the federal government, the state and local governments because a situation where they are asking Nigerians to keep tightening their belt and they (government officials) are living in affluence is not acceptable,” he said.
