Police begins manhunt for killers of Justice Igbetar in Benue

The assassination of Justice Margaret Igbetar, a former judge of the Benue State Customary Appeal Court, has sparked a huge investigation, according to the Benue State Police Command.

Justice Igbetar was reportedly murdered on Thursday at her Makurdi home by individuals thought to be assassins.

Some arrests have been made, according to a statement from the Benue State Police Command, and important evidence has been found.

“On August 24, 2023, at approximately 1530 hours, information was received at “E” Police Division Makurdi, indicating that Justice Margaret Mary Igbetar (rtd) was unable to answer calls and was not present,” according to the statement issued by Anene Catherine, the public relations officer for the Benue Police. Detectives were sent out right away to conduct an investigation.

“A search conducted within her house at Wantor Kwange street, Gboko road, Makurdi led to the discovery of her dead body in a pool of blood inside her kitchen. It was also observed that she had deep cuts at her back.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of one Aondohemba Joseph and recovery of exhibits for detailed investigation.

The Benue State Command Commissioner of Police, CP. Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka PSC (+), expressed his condolences to the deceased’s family and friends while denouncing the heinous deed and promising to solve the murder’s riddle and bring those responsible to justice.
