Police guns down suspected IPOB/ESN fighter, recover weapons in Enugu

An alleged member of the Eastern Security Network, the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been neutralized by Enugu State Police Command agents working with neighborhood watch group members in the state.
Along with other exhibits, the security agencies also found his gun and ammunition.
This information was provided by the police in a statement that was released on Sunday night and was signed by Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson.
According to Ndukwe, the victim and his suspected group opened fire on the security forces on Saturday at approximately 10:45 p.m. in Igbele village along Amachala road in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, killing the suspect.
The police chief said that the achievement was made possible by what he called novel policing tactics developed by the state’s police commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, to purge the state of persistent criminals.
According to him, the NPF Special Forces and Igbo-Eze North Police Division of the Command are providing the operation’s operators.
“One pump action gun loaded with four live cartridges, three expended cartridges, objects suspected to be amulets, and one black (inscribed “Special Constabulary”) and yellow-coloured beret each was recovered from the neutralised member of the outlawed group.
“The feat is consequent upon the operatives’ swift response to credible information on the wanton criminal activities of the renegades, who, in their numbers, blocked the road and opened fire on them.
“The Operatives, however, tactically returned fire at a superior level, leaving many other members of the subversive criminal group escaping with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.”
Ndukwe said that the CP has commended the team for the job well done while assuring them of the commitment of the Command to sustain the onslaught against unrepentant criminals.
He, however, appealed to the citizens of Enugu State to continue to support the Police in its to rid the society and the state of criminal elements.
