Police kill two, arrest four suspects over links with Otukpo bank robbery

The police said on Monday that four suspects had been apprehended and two had been neutralized in connection with the October 23 fatal bank robbery in Otukpo, Benue State.
Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, stated this in Abuja during a meeting with Strategic Police Managers, which included personnel with the level of Commissioner of Police.
“You will recall the October 23 Otukpo bank robbery, during which the Otukpo Divisional Police Officers, DPO, and many other innocent Nigerians were killed.”
“A huge sum of money was carted away from the three commercial banks that were robbed during the operation,” he told reporters.
According to the IGP, the unwavering efforts of police officers operating on both human and technological intelligence eventually paid off.
He stated that the armed robbers were tracked down to their hideout, where two of them were killed and four others were detained.
According to Egbetokun, the four suspects are currently in the custody of the Nigeria Police and are aiding in the investigation to track down other gang members who have fled.
The suspects were found with nine AK-47 weapons and 4,013 rounds of live ammo, according to Egbetokun.
He said that on December 14 and 15, police operatives recovered 23 abducted victims during a covert rescue operation in Rivers and Katsina states.
Egbetokun stated the deaths included students from Katsina’s Federal University, Dutsinma, and that two prominent bandits were slain during the operation.
He claimed that the Nigeria Police had made considerable progress in reducing crime rates across the country in the last ten weeks.
This, he claims, was accomplished through a combination of intelligence-led operations, community interactions, and proactive policing.
