Police nabs couple for stealing neighbor’s child in Nasarawa

A man and his wife have been detained by the Nasarawa State Police Command on suspicion of snatching their neighbor’s two-year-old son.

The command’s public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, made this statement to reporters on Thursday in Lafia.

According to Nansel, the victim’s father, Adamu Abdullahi, of Orange Market, Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, reported his two-year-old son missing to the police on August 13 at around 3:30 pm. The boy had been missing for nearly two weeks.

He claimed that the complainant also informed the police that he had got a phone call from an unknown caller on the same day seeking a N2 million ransom.

The police official claimed that detectives were sent out right once to look for the missing youngster, and that their efforts resulted in the capture of the main suspect and three conspirators.

In his account, the principal suspect—a neighbor of the victim’s father—confessed during questioning that he had planned to abduct the child with the other suspects, all of whom were residents of Orange Market.

He continued by saying that the suspect had also told the officers that he had given the child to his wife, who had then driven him to Katsina State.

According to Nansel, the police tracked the suspect’s wife to Katsina State, apprehended her, and then found the kidnapped boy and returned him to his parents.

The official added that during July and August, the command had detained 14 suspects for a variety of crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.

He stated that some of the suspects had three firearms and 11 rounds of live ammunition.

All the suspects would be charged in court after investigations were finished, according to Nansel, who advised locals to exercise vigilance when it came to security.
