Reckless driver crushes police officer to death in Ondo
On Sunday, a hit-and-run driver killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) working for the Ondo State Police Command.
Along the congested Benin-Akure route, the unfortunate occurrence took place in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, of the state.
The yet-to-be-named Assistant Superintendent of Police was struck and killed at a checkpoint by a driver who was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.
The slain police officer attempted to stop the car, but the driver struck him and continued without stopping, according to sources.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the police public relations officer (PPRO), disclosed:
“The driver swerved and hit an ASP and the officer died immediately and the unidentified driver fled the scene immediately the accident occurred.
“The driver, however, was pursued and fortunately for us he (driver) was arrested by the military men at Sobe in Edo State.”
The PPRO further stated that the deceased police officer’s body had been placed in the morgue.
