Resident doctors embark on total and indefinite strike

A total and indefinite strike action has been embarked upon by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

This information was made know to Platinum Times Nigeria on Tuesday night in a brief statement from the association.

The quick payment of the 2023 MRTF, the immediate release of the one-for-one replacement circular, and the payment of skipping arrears were among the demands made by the resident doctors.

Additionally mentioned on the list were the full salary restoration to CONMESS’ 2014 value, the payment of arrears for the minimal consequential adjustment to the omitted doctors, and the reversal of MDCN’s downgrade of the membership certificate.

The payment of MRTF, new hazard allowance, skipping and implementing rectified CONMESS in State Tertiary Health Institutions, as well as the making of back payments on omitted hazard allowance, are additional requests.

The strike was called after the group gave the federal government a two-week deadline on July 5 to comply with all of its requests.

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, met privately on Monday to discuss averting the strike with the NARD leadership.

Following the private discussions, Abbas announced the formation of an ad hoc committee to meet with all the parties and handle the issue, and he pledged to arrange a meeting with President Bola Tinubu to prevent the industrial action of the resident doctors.

The Speaker also pleaded with NARD to grant the house leadership two weeks to come up with answers to the problems brought up.
