Rid yourselves of ethnic prejudice and religious intolerance – Adeleke charges corp members

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has tasked corps members with making a meaningful contribution to their host communities and accepting their postings to their primary assignment locations in good faith.

Along with guaranteeing ongoing support for the program, Governor Adeleke gave the corps members assurance that his administration was trying to make the Orientation Camp in Osun the best in the nation.

During the passing out parade and closing ceremony of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Batch B Stream II deployed to Osun State and those dispersed from Lagos State, Adeleke, represented by his deputy Kola Adewusi, made this charge.

Adeleke advised the corps members to respect their host communities’ traditions and culture.

“I enjoin you to accept your postings in good faith and be determined to impact your host communities positively. However remote your place of primary assignment may seem, remember that some other Corps members have served before and some are currently on the ground contributing their own quota to the development of that community.

“The good people of the State eagerly await your services. Do not deprive them of your services by seeking postings to the urban cities only. Every urban city was once a rural area.

“I charge you to respect the culture and tradition of the people of your host communities. Do not cast aspersions on their way of life but rather integrate yourselves with identifying with their problems and aspirations. Rid yourselves of ethnic prejudice and religious intolerance; strive to live peaceably among them. Our people are loving and hospitable and I want to assure you that you will enjoy living among them.”

Agbor Ndoma Obim, the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, had earlier asked for an upgrading review of the corps members allowance to lessen the impact of the loss of the fuel subsidy and the increase in the cost of living.

Agbor urged the corps members to participate in projects that will have a long-lasting impact in their host towns in addition to advising them to avoid absenteeism and tardiness when arriving for duty.
