Rivers APC secures court order halting inauguration of a Caretaker Committee

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has barred the All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership from inaugurating the newly nominated Caretaker Committee members for Rivers State.
The APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved the party’s Rivers State executives at all levels and announced the formation of a seven-man Caretaker Committee, chaired by Chief Tony Okocha and secretaryed by Chief Eric Nwibani.
The Caretaker Committee was supposed to be inaugurated on Friday (today), November 24, 2023, in the party’s Abuja National Secretariat.
The FCT High Court, however, issued an interim order of injunction restraining the NWC of the APC, their men and officers, agents, privies and servants, from taking any step capable of affecting, destroying, or distorting the performance of the party’s elected Rivers State executives, following an ex parte application filed by Peter Ohochukwu, representing himself and all the elected state executives of the APC in Rivers State.
The court further ordered the parties to maintain the status quo awaiting the hearing and decision on the application on notice.
According to Platinum Times, the respondents in the case include Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC’s National Chairman, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, the APC’s National Secretary, Chief Tony Okocha, Eric Nwibani, the Nigerian Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
