Rivers Court extends injunction prohibiting police from arresting Ehie

The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has extended the provisional injunction that prevents police and other security services from apprehending Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff at the Rivers Government House, until the main case is resolved.

Justice Sika Aprioku issued the directive in response to objections filed by Ehie’s attorney, Demian Okoro, SAN.

Okoro expressed alarm that, notwithstanding the interim injunction, the police had declared his client wanted.

Aprioku cited Order 4 Rule 4c of the Administration of Criminal Justice, claiming that granted him the authority to renew and prolong orders “where the application is made experte.”

Aprioku, who also ruled on respondent lawyer Celestine Dickson’s appeal for time extension, granted the lawyer three days to respond to the proceedings and the applicant two days to file his response.

He deferred the lawsuit until February 15th, 2024, to begin hearing the substantive claim.
