Rivers crisis: Court affirms Fubara’s ally, Edison Ehie, as authentic Assembly Speaker
On Tuesday, Edison Ehie was formally recognized as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly by a High Court located in the capital city of Rivers State, Port Harcourt.
According to Platinum Times, Edison Ehie is one of the four legislators supporting Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor, in the current dispute with Nyesom Wike, the governor who before him.
Because of their loyalty to Wike, the incumbent Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT Abuja, Edison’s colleagues suspended him and removed him from his position as leader of the house.
Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol were instructed by Judge M.W. Danagogo, who rendered the decision, to cease representing themselves as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The court issued a warning against trying to enter the Assembly Complex with the help of police officers and thugs.
According to Platinum Times, the state’s political unrest took a fresh turn on Monday when roughly 27 lawmakers defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
