Rivers crisis: Why Ehie resigned as Assembly Speaker – Fubara
Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has explained why Edison Ehie resigned as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Fubara indicated that Ehie’s resignation was intended to pave the way for state peace.
He made the announcement while speaking to dignitaries in Port Harcourt, including former governor Peter Odili and his wife, Mary.
According to Fubara:
“Therefore, whatever it will take, as seen in our decisions yesterday, most of you were worried why the speaker would resign. It is to tell you what we can do for peace.
“It is not about what we want to gain. It is not about the power we want to exercise. But at the end of the day, ask what we are leaving for our people.”
Ehie, who is loyal to Fubara, resigned as lawmaker and Speaker of the state’s assembly amid the crisis between the governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Ehie’s resignation letter was dated December 29, 2023, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
