Road clash claims four lives in Ogun

On Friday, four individuals were reportedly killed in a single incident near the J3 end of the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway.
The crash occurred about 11:40 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry with the license plate BDG184FY.
The car, with its four occupants, was claimed to have somersaulted into the marsh, killing everyone inside.
The accident was caused by driving at excessive speeds, which caused the car to lose control and deviate off the road.
Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed this in a statement released to press on Friday.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited to the morgue of the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode.
The statement partly read,
“A fatal crash occurred at about 1140hrs on Friday 09/02/24 on the Ore- Ijebu-ode section of the expressway around J3.
“One vehicle, a Toyota Camry blue colour, with registration number BDG184FY was involved.
“A total of four persons were involved and they all died from the lone crash (three male adults and a female adult).
“The suspected cause of the lone crash was excessive speed which led to loss of control and the vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted into a swamp.”
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, CC Anthony Uga, has advised motorists on long journeys to always have 15 minutes rest after four hour drive to avoid fatigue while driving and also go with the stipulated speed limit.
Uga sympathised with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact FRSC Ogbere for more information about the crash.
Road accidents have been on the rise in recent times with traffic control agencies warning drivers against overspeeding.
