Sokoto murder: Nigerian Law recognizes  Blasphemy – Force PRO

The force’s public relations officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has urged religious leaders to educate their adherents on the topic of blasphemy against prophets.

In response to the murder of Usman Buda Mai, a citizen of Sokoto State who was accused of demeaning the personality of the Prophet Muhammad, he made this claim in a tweet on his verified account.

Due to the alleged blasphemy, Buda was brutally murdered on Sunday, inciting unrest in several areas of the state.

The Force spokesman claimed that even if blasphemy is a crime under the country’s constitution, the public should not enforce the law.

He wrote, “Sokoto command has been on it. Let’s wait for their report and action. But I think we need to call on our clerics to carry out enlightenment on this issue.

“Blasphemy, though an offence recognized by Nigerian law, is not subject to the whims of members of the public for enforcement”.
