Strike: FG, NLC, TUC resume talks over Subsidy removal
At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, representatives of the Federal Government and Organized Labor have continue conversation about proposing answers to the challenging circumstances following the removal of fuel subsidies.
The Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives is the name of the gathering, which includes representatives of the Federal Government and Organized Labor, represented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
Last Friday, the Organized Labour abruptly left the meeting, stating there were no senior government officials present to bargain with them.
The meeting went horribly wrong and was supposed to hear updates from three subcommittees on public transportation, CNG, and cash transfers that the government had proposed to lessen the impact of eliminating subsidies.
The Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari are among the representatives of the Federal Government present at the meeting.
The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, the TUC Secretary, Festus Osifo, the NLC General Secretary, Emma Ugbaja, the TUC Secretary, Nuhu Toro, and other members of the organized Labour delegation, including Prof. Sam Amadi, are on the side of organized labor.
