Subsidy Removal: Lagos govt announces new rate for BRT fare

The withdrawal of fuel subsidies would have an impact on inhabitants of Lagos, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised palliatives to aid.

Lagos buses will have a 50% price cut starting on Wednesday.

Additionally, Sanwo-Olu has accepted a 25% decrease in the cost of using yellow buses, which will be formally publicized by their union.

“FLASH: Governor of Lagos State, Mr. @jidesanwoolu has announced Palliatives to cushion the effect of the Fuel subsidy removal: – 50% reduction on Lagos Buses from Wednesday,” stated a tweet from the governor’s media assistant Jubril Gawat.

“Their body will formally announce a 25% reduction in yellow bus fares.”

Sanwo-Olu further stated that as part of the measures to mitigate the consequences of the loss of the gasoline subsidy, food packets would also be made daily available to the state’s most vulnerable population.

These food kits would be purchased locally and given by Community Development Associations (CDAs), mosques, churches, and local governments.
