Supreme Court to give its verdict on Adamawa guber election today
Governor Umar Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and his opponent, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, will find out the outcome of their long-running legal battle for the governorship seat today, Wednesday, in the Supreme Court.
While Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) requests that the Supreme Court uphold the March 18 governorship election results announced by the Returning Officer (RO), Binani insists that the results declared by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) be upheld.
However, the Supreme Court will decide this morning who has the authority to declare election results.
A judgment delivery document obtained by DAILY POST suggested that the final verdict would be rendered this morning.
The two powerful politicians are claiming two distinct results declared by two different people.
While the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, recognized the results announced by its Returning Officer to affirm Fintiri’s return, Binani is seeking an order from the Supreme Court directing the electoral body to uphold the one announced in her favour by the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
As of the time of this report, the two politicians’ camps had begun to arrive in court.
