Suspected herdsmen attack troops, kill one soldier, another injured in Benue
Troops deployed to the Ochumekwu community in Benue State’s Apa Local Government Area were reportedly ambushed by suspected armed herders.
Major General Sunday Iserihen Igbinomwanhia, Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), revealed this to journalists in Makurdi on Monday.
He stated that a soldier was killed and another injured in an attack by suspected herders.
According to Igbinonwanhia, the army responded by killing three and injuring several of the ranchers, recovering one AK-47 rifle and rounds of ammo.
He stated that the OPWS is now conducting a clearance operation to clean out suspected armed foreign herders who have invaded the Kwande Local Government Area of the State.
It should be noted that in February, a soldier was killed and two others injured in Agatu local government when suspected herders ambushed the army.
