Fire has engulfed the famed Wuse market in Abuja’s Central Area, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The reason of the fire outbreak is unknown at the time of reporting this report, however the incident brought the day’s business to an abrupt halt in the Market Area.
This is chaos and mayhem, with traffic jams on all routes heading to the market. People are observed running in multiple directions.
Police officers arrived at the market and barred the entrance, preventing people from entering. They were spotted shooting randomly and launching tear gas into the air.
The Nation correspondent who arrived at the market noted that a section of the market, specifically the parking lot on the northern side of the entrance, had been enveloped as smoke billowed into the atmosphere.
Some of the automobiles in the parking lot have already been burned. People within the market can also be seen forcing their way out by jumping the perimeter gate.
Firefighters have arrived as this report is being submitted.
