Tension as gunmen storm Anambra community, kill two vigilantes

Some as-yet-unidentified gunmen shot and killed two Anambra State Vigilante Service members in Aguluzigbo in the Anaocha Local Government of Anambra State, South East Nigeria.

It seems that on Tuesday afternoon, two Vigilante members were discovered unconscious in a bloodpuddle on the road.

Speaking in Igbo, a voice purportedly belonging to the video shooter said, “You have seen what the unknown gunmen have done in Aguluzigbo now.”

According to reports, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that armed men had attacked Aguluzigbo.

Ikenga stated that the police command had ordered reinforcements to help the state vigilante operators fight the thugs, even though he did not confirm the killing.

He acknowledged that he wasn’t sure what had transpired yet, but he pledged to provide accurate information.

He said,

“There is a little security account of some armed men and vigilantes at Aguluzigbo. I am aware that the security operatives and vigilantes confronted these armed men. Our operatives have gone there to support the vigilante.

“No information has been heard from but once I get a clear picture I will still let you know, our operatives are currently there supporting the vigilantes to make sure that peace returns to that place.”

Aguluzigbo is a town that comprises six villages including Iruowelle, Etuleze, Ihulu, Ufa, Ifite, and Nduana. It is bordered by seven towns and they are Agulu, Ora-eri, Akwaeze, Igbo-ukwu, Nanka, Obeledu, and Umuona.
