Tension as thunder strikes Reverend Father to death in Benue

According to reports, lightning struck and killed the Reverend Father Faustinus Gundu, parish priest of St. Joseph Catholic Church Jootar in  Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to Daily Trust, the incident was described in two different ways by local sources who have not yet been confirmed by police.

One version said that the deceased priest, known as “Albino,” was killed by lightning and thunder on Thursday morning while another claimed that he collapsed and died.

However, according to the witnesses, the deceased priest rushed outside as soon as it started to rain to get a towel from the linen closet, slipped, and fell, hitting his head on a hard surface.

The deceased Gundu was found to have been alone when the incident occurred, and no one was quickly available to help him, so he was left where he had fallen as the rain continued.

Locals claimed that by the time they found him and tried to help him, he had already passed away.

SP The incident was reported to Makurdi-based reporters by Catherine Anene, the Benue Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).

Anene didn’t know if the man died from a lightning bolt or from collapsing and dying.
