Tension in Taraba community as flood submerges houses, destroy properties, others
Following significant rainfall, residents of the Gashaka Local Government Area in Taraba State central geopolitical zone are assessing their losses.
About six hours of rain fell on Sunday, flooding many homes and sweeping away products worth millions of Naira.
The water also carried away domestic animals and farm products.
They have pleaded with the state administration and NEMA, the federal emergency management organization, to assist them. They also requested assistance from National Assembly members who represent the zone.
Dauda Ali, who claimed that the flood that devastated Serti, the council’s administrative center, and its surroundings had destroyed his property, said that it had also prevented other farmers from having a bumper harvest.
He bemoaned the fact that loans from cooperatives and private persons were used to finance farms.
Suleiman Abba, a different local, claimed that since the flood devastated the neighborhood, goats and sheep were nowhere to be found.
Some of the victims, who are seeking refuge in public spaces, said that the area’s lack of drainage systems was to blame for the flood.
