Tinubu set to appoint Major Hamza Al-Mustapha as NSCDC boss
Unless something changes at the last minute, the Federal Government may designate Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (rtd) as Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The selection of the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, was consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s determination to reorient the security architecture.
Al-Mustapha, who ran for president on the Action Alliance (AA) platform, had lamented the country’s security situation, particularly when previous President Muhammadu Buhari was in power.
He warned that Nigeria was sitting on a keg of gunpowder due to the prevalence of weaponry and hard drugs in circulation during a keynote talk at a discussion on “Contemporary security challenges and their effects on the 2023 general election.”
The soldier-turned-politician stated that the trend constituted a threat to the votes and that Nigerians should begin asking questions about if the stash of weaponry was intended to reinforce insurgency.
According to him, many insurgent victims still litter the land.
He had said:
“There are leadership deficit in Nigeria at all levels. The next leader must have shock absorber, because this country is sitting on a keg of gunpowder.”
