Tragic lightning strike claims lives of 2 women in Lagos
Two women tragically lost their lives in Lagos after being struck by lightning during a rainstorm in the FESTAC area.
The incident was confirmed by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, via his Twitter handle @benHundeyin on Saturday.
The lightning strike occurred during Friday’s rainfall. The two victims were inside a makeshift dwelling on First Avenue, FESTAC, when they were struck by lightning, resulting in immediate electrocution and sparking a fire.
The women resided in a structure situated under high-voltage wires, which contributed to the fatal incident. SP Hundeyin expressed his sympathies to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for the repose of their souls.
This incident underscores the dangers posed by severe weather conditions and the risks associated with living in close proximity to high-voltage electrical infrastructure.
