Tribunal upholds Tambuwal’s Election as Sokoto South senator
Aminu Tambuwal (PDP) has been confirmed by the Sokoto State Election Petition Tribunal as the legitimately elected senator for the Sokoto South Senatorial District.
Abdullahi Danbaba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) filed a case contesting Tambuwal’s win, asking the Tribunal to declare the election invalid for not adhering substantially to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Additionally, Danbaba had requested that the Tribunal hold new elections in 28 polling places since he claimed that no elections had been held during the substantive and supplementary polls in February and April.
In a unanimous decision, the Tribunal denied the petition on the grounds that it lacked substance and contained untrustworthy papers and evidence.
The PDP and Tambuwal, the first and second respondents, were each given a cost award of N200,000 by the Tribunal.
With 100,860 votes overall, Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State for two terms, won the election.
He defeated Danbaba, who received 95,884 votes, by a vote margin of 4,976.
