Truck accident kills 8, injures 47 in Yobe

In a crash involving two trucks on Wednesday along the Potiskum-Nangere road in Yobe State, eight travelers were killed and 47 others were hurt.

One of the trucks lost control and collided with the other as the travelers were traveling to a well-known monthly cattle market in Potiskum.

Adamu Hassan, an eyewitness, told reporters that while the injured were transferred to General Hospital Sabon Garin Nangere for medical attention, the corpses had been sent to Potiskum Specialist Hospital.

Eight persons were verified dead and 47 others suffered injuries of various seriousness, according to Muhammad Kawuwale, a member of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) who confirmed the tragedy.

“We also gathered that 47 sustained injuries. Out of this number, 26 are from Nangere while 21 hail from Potiskum LGA”, he said.

He added that SEMA had provided free drugs and other necessary interventions to the victims.
