We have not embarked on strike – NLC debunks claim

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has denied allegations that it has gone on an indefinite statewide strike.

According to online sources, the union began its scheduled strike on Friday after its ultimatum to the federal government expired on Thursday.

According to Platinum Times, organized labor has threatened to shut down the country’s economy in order to protest the government’s inability to meet its demands.

The union is requesting that the federal government give appropriate palliatives to mitigate the effects of the elimination of the fuel subsidy.

On September 5 and 6, the NLC held a two-day warning strike, during which it issued a 14-day ultimatum.

The government’s efforts to quash the call for an extended strike have been futile, as the union continues to warn that if its demands are not met, the economy would be shut down.

While workers await additional instructions, online reports circulated on Friday claiming that the union has begun an extended strike.

When contacted by Platinum Times, Benson Upah, the NLC’s Head of Department for Information and Public Affairs, stated, “The report is not true.”

He urged the people to dismiss the viral report.
