10 things to know about Yetunde Oni, new Union Bank CEO

Only hours after the Central Bank of Nigeria dissolved the boards and managements of Union Bank of Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and Polaris Bank for alleged corporate governance violations and noncompliance with regulatory requirements, the financial regulatory body appointed new executive directors to oversee the affairs of the deposit money banks.
Sidi Hakama, the acting Director of Corporate Communications, stated on Thursday morning that the appointment is effective immediately.
According to the statement, Yetunde Oni, the first female CEO of Sierra Leone’s Standard Chartered Bank, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank.
According to Platinum Times, Yetunde Oni, Union Bank’s new CEO and MD, brings over 25 years of banking experience to the forefront.
She replaces Mudassir Amray, the bank’s former CEO.

- 1. Yetunde Oni received a degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan in 1991.
- 2. She completed Executive Training at Oxford University in 2016.
- 3. She received her MBA in Business Administration from Bangor University in 2020.
- 4. She started her work at Prime Merchant Bank Treasury & Money Markets Group.
- 5. She worked as a Relationship Manager in Ecobank Nigeria’s Institutional Banking Group from 1994 to 2005.
- 6. In January 2005, Yetunde Oni joined Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria as Senior Account Relationship Manager in the Local Corporations area.
- 7. She was later relocated to the Apapa Branch, where she was responsible for both the Wholesale Banking Branch Head position and the development of the Bank’s local corporate portfolio in the Apapa and Ogun State regions.
- 8. In May 2010, she was named Head of Local Corporates.
- 9. In 2014, she was named Managing Director and Country Head of Commercial Banking in West Africa for Standard Chartered Bank (2014 – January 2021).
- 10. Prior to her Managerial job with Union Bank, she served as the first female Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone, a position she assumed in January 2021.
