11 things to know about Zenith Bank new GMD/CEO, Adaora Umeoji

Adaora Umeoji is the newly appointed Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Zenith Bank Plc.

She steps into the shoe as the first female to lead the bank.

She is expected to resume this position from the 1st June, 2024 following the completion of her predecessor, Dr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose five-year term will expire on 31 May, 2024.

Prior to this appointment, she was the Deputy Managing Director of the bank since October 28, 2016, and has about thirty years of cognate banking experience of which twenty-six (26) years has been with Zenith Bank.

  1. Adaora Umeoji hails from the Igbo tribe in Nigeria and she is married with children.
  2. She is a graduate of the prestigious Harvard Business School where she attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) and an alumnus of Columbia Business School with a Certificate in the Global Banking Program.
  3. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a First-Class honors in Law from Baze University, Abuja and a Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar, and also has a doctorate in business administration from Apollos University, USA.
  4. She holds a Certificate in Economics for Business from the prestigious MIT Sloan School of Management, USA, and has attended various management programmes in renowned Universities around the world including the strategic thinking and Management programme at Wharton Business School, USA.
  5. She attended an executive program in Strategic Management and has a Certificate in Leading Global Business all from Harvard Business School, USA.
  6. She is an affiliate of professional bodies such as the Chartered Banker Institute, UK, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Management, Institute of Credit Administration, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Nigeria, Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria among others.
  7. She is a Lady of the Order of Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and was awarded a Papal Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester by His Holiness Pope Francis.
  8. Adaora is a philantropist who has affected humanity through her NGOs; Pink Breathe Cancer Foundation and the Adorable Foundation which educates and caters to Cancer patients and indigent children education especially the Girl- Child.
  9. She founded the Catholic Bankers Association of Nigeria (CBAN), a platform through which she promotes ethical banking and service to humanity.
  10. In recognition of her selfless service to nation-building, she was given a national honor as the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2022 and the Humanitarian Service Icon Award by the Sun Newspaper in 2023.
  11. She is also a Peace Advocate of the United Nations (UN-POLAC).
