146 stranded Nigerians received by NEMA from Niger Republic

Another group of stranded Nigerians were received by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday from Niamey, Niger Republic.

The disclosure was made by Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, NEMA Coordinator, Kano Territorial Office, when he welcomed the returnees to Kano at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

At around 10:35 a.m., the returnees boarded an Ethiopian Airline B737-400 with the registration number UR-CQX.

The returnees came from many regions of Nigeria, including Katsina, Kano, Adamawa, Lagos, Imo, Enugu, and Edo State, among others. There were 56 male adults, 39 female adults, and 51 children (35 female and 16 male).

According to Abdullahi, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) oversaw a voluntary repatriation program that brought the returnees home.

He pointed out that the program was designed for troubled Nigerians who had fled the nation in pursuit of better opportunities in other European nations but were unable to pay to come home after their travels proved tiresome.

Abdullahi also counseled Nigerian youths against risking their lives by emigrating to search for better opportunities abroad.

Emeka Njoku, a man from Imo State, recounted their tribulations and stated that four months prior, he had left for Tunisia in search of better opportunities.

NJoku urged the government to give Nigerians access to employment opportunities and empowerment programs.
