BREAKING: 18 months after, court grants Abba Kyari bail
Abba Kyari, a suspended deputy commissioner of police, has been granted bail by an Abuja federal high court.
On Thursday, Kyari, who has been held in custody since his arrest in 2022, was granted bail.
The former super officer was wanted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for his alleged involvement in a 25kg cocaine trade.
He was then detained and brought before a judge, who ordered his detention in Kuje Prison in Abuja.
A panel was established by the police to look into the actions of the previous leader of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
He was then put on administrative leave from the force.
On Thursday, a Federal High Court in Abuja presided by Justice Kolawole Omotosho granted him bail with strict guidelines.
Kyari is still facing charges in a criminal matter before Justice Emeka Nwite of an Abuja federal high court.
