2023 WAC: Amike speaks on how far Tobi Amusan can go

Ex-olympian Henry Amike claimed on Tuesday that Tobi Amusan’s recent struggles would help her win the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, he made this statement and urged Amusan to get past the controversy surrounding her suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

By a majority vote, the panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal determined that Amusan had not broken the anti-doping rule that prohibits three Whereabouts Failures during a 12-month period.

He claimed that the controversy surrounding Amusan’s suspension might inspire her to beat the record set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States.

“As athletes, we react to things differently. Her recent travail could actually encourage her to clock a good time and break her own record.

“The effect of the recent drama is more psychological than physical. Once her mind can take control of the fact that she deserves to be in Hungary, she will pull through.

“Not every trauma brings out the negative. I hope she has the support that she needs at the moment because that will go a long way; she needs good people that believe in her around her at the moment,” he said.
