On Sunday afternoon, the Super Eagles battled to draw 1-1 with Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday two match at the Huye Stadium in Butare.
Early on, the Warriors sat back and let the Super Eagles determine the tempo of the game.
Terem Moffi failed to connect Moses Simon’s cross for Nigeria’s first chance of the game.
In the 26th minute, Walter Musona gave the hosts the lead.
The free kick from outside the area by the Sekhukhune United attacker found the back of the goal.
After the break, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro made three substitutions, replacing Ola Aina, Frank Onyeka, and Nathan Tella with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Victor Boniface.
After the break, Zimbabwe gained confidence and began to take the game to the Super Eagles.
25 minutes from time, substitute Iheanacho equalized for the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles have two points after two games.
Jose Peseiro’s team will host South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in their next qualification game in June 2024.
