A Ukrainian village councilman detonated hand grenades at a meeting, injuring 26 persons, according to national police, prompting the launch of a terror probe.

The event occurred Friday morning at the Keretsky village council headquarters in western Ukraine’s hilly Zakarpattia region.

A police video uploaded on Telegram showed a man clad in black approaching the door of a council meeting during a heated debate.

He then took three hand grenades from his pockets, released the safety pins, and placed them on the floor, causing explosions while everyone present shrieked.

“As a result, 26 people were injured, six of whom are in critical condition,” the police statement stated, adding that medics were attempting to resuscitate the grenade thrower.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the Ukrainian Secret Service (SBU) has launched a terrorism investigation.

It further stated that national police have launched an investigation into illegal firearm handling.

The committee broadcast a live video of its discussion on social media, showing the man walking in more than 1.5 hours into the argument and standing by the door before pulling out the grenade.

It then showed mayhem inside the little area, which had turned black and was filled with smoke, as well as injured persons on the floor.

The man’s identity was not revealed by authorities.

Because of the battle with Russia, many Ukrainians have access to weapons.
